Les Saisons du Photon

Laser
2023

Every day, the sun floods the Earth with photons - pieces of light - in varying amounts, generating seasonal cycles. This visual and sound piece pays tribute to the balance created by time, with a ballet of photons representing these cycles. Born of the synergy between the worlds of two audiovisual and digital artists, Matthieu Beghin and Mike Latona, this creation features lasers and mirrors, canopies and smoke screens. It showcases the different effects and interplay of materials obtained through light diffraction and reflection. Reflection. On matter. On light. On the seasons. On the Earth. On the Universe. It has been developed with an ecological eye, to be economical in materials and power consumption.

Technical setup

The setup consists is made of a rectangular structure (4 meters by 2.5 meters) covered with mirror and plexi mirror (curved in the corners). Two laser projectors (20-100W each) are sending light and are controlled by a raspberry pi (linux based 4W computer). An arduino handles turning on & off the smog machine to lower power consumption (total is between 100W & 220W)
